In addition to snow sports, we plan summer activities like bike riding, camping, and monthly 'socials' Membership costs $20.00 per person, and one-day trips are reasonably priced and include transportation to the resort and lift tickets. The club's membership includes couples, families, and singles, age 21 to 75. An annual business meeting and banquet is held in April, and a pre-season party complete with resorts and ski outfitters takes place in October. GOODYEAR SKI CLUB Goodyear Ski Club (GSC) is the premier ski club in the Akron area. Most of our 200 members live in Summit County, but many of our members are from other counties and even other states. We welcome guests at our social events and club meetings. GSC meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month (September through May) at the New Era Restaurant, 10 Massillon Road, Akron OH 44312.
We offer two major destination ski trips each year. In 2016 we are going to Winter Park, Colorado during the week of January 30 through February 6. Then we head north to Banff in British Columbia for the week of March 5-12, 2016.
GSC’s priority is offering high quality ski trips at an attractive price. We plan our trips to run at or below cost in order to keep the price low for the benefit of our members. But we don’t skimp on amenities or fun. Our Winter Park trip features ski in/ski out accommodation; our Banff trip includes two dinner parties as well as free breakfast every day.
Another way we like to reward our members is with our annual membership appreciation bus trip to Holimont, at the vintage price of $50.
As a fund-raiser, every year in late September/early October we operate a Swap Shop where snow sport enthusiasts are able to buy and sell new and used equipment and apparel. This year the swap will be held Thursday, October 1 through Sunday, October 4 at Buckeye Sport Center at 4610 State Road in Peninsula OH. Ten percent of the proceeds go to benefit Embracing Futures, formerly known as the Beacon Journal Charity Fund. Eighty percent goes to the seller, and the final ten percent benefits GSC.
Our two largest social events of the year are the Summer Picnic at Wingfoot Lake State Park in August and the Holiday Party in December. Other social events include a volunteer banquet, a bowling party, a golf tournament, a baseball game at Canal Park, an Ohio wine tour, a dinner cruise on the Nautica Queen, bike rides in the spring and fall, a Euchre tournament and a chili cook-off.
