Party Wrapup!

CMSC’s 50th Birthday Party

It was a very special night.

CMSC’s 50th Birthday Party brought together generations of snowlovers for an evening of dining, dancing and, above all, sharing memories with friends.  The party was held Sat. Nov 4, at the Mediterranean Event Center in Bedford Heights.

Upon arrival, over 230 guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and cocktails as they mingled with friends and viewed the 10 display boards featuring CMSC events, the queen pageant, racing, CMSC directories, memorabilia and loads of pictures from the last 50 years which sparked a lot of memories.  Many enjoyed viewing old videos of past races.  Each guest received a coffee mug with the old and current CMSC logo.

A brief program by Madelynn DiCillo, the emcee for the evening, had just the right mix of nostalgia, humor and recognition.  The new CMSC logo was presented by Marketing Chair Debbie McCreery and Race Chair/Social Media Chair Becky Bertuzzi, who designed the new logo.  Current CMSC officers, honored guests (Dick and Georgette Bohr, Ski and Sport Haus; Steve Hooker, Swain Ski Center; Andy Minear, Kissing Bridge Ski Area, and Greg Maguire from Little Mountain Limited) were recognized. As well as our invited guests invited guests Rich Edwards of R Ski Ranch and Tyler Sprockhoff of Boston Mills.

A special part of the program recognized two couples in attendance who influenced generations of CMSC skiers and snowboarders.  Laine and Peter Keefe began the CMSC’s Kids Racing Program in 2002, and many of the kids who skied in that program now race in CMSC’s Adult Race Program and are bringing their friends.  Tom and Joan Evans were among the founders of CMSC Racing, and their example of volunteerism and love of racing are apparent in the race and coaching activities of their daughters and grandchildren who race in CMSC’s program and are continuing the family tradition.

The program ended with a birthday cake, a round of Happy Birthday and the candles were blown out by Dick Baker, CMSC President 1967-1970, followed by dancing to the sounds of The Summer of ‘65.

It truly was a night to remember.
