Where Have All the CMSC Clubs Gone?

So where did all the various ski clubs that comprise the Cleveland Metro Ski Council go skiing this past ski season?  Read on, and discover the answer.  And for many clubs, the magic number of major ski trips seems to be 3!  A big THANK YOU to all the clubs that made a submission to this article.

Chagrin Valley Ski Club

CVSC took 3 major ski trips this past season. In February the Club was off to Winter Park ski resort  CVSC at Winter Park, CO .  We were lucky to be on the front end of a number of overnight dumps of the fluffy white stuff which made for many happy faces ready to hit the slopes each morning.  A couple of bluebird days made for wonderful group photo ops with “Bearclaw Mountain” as a backdrop. The mountain boasts 7 ski areas with terrain for all abilities and free mountain tours to get familiar with the 3000 skiable acres.

A day trip to Steamboat was also included in our adventure, while some other members enjoyed a side trip for horseback riding and cross country skiing.

Condo-style accommodations with kitchenettes at the Vintage Hotel  provided guests with the choice of eating in or dining out at several base village restaurants.  City buses were available to transport to Winter Park for shopping and more dining options. We had a wonderful catered dinner mid-week with a “Valentines” theme that everyone enjoyed!

In March our group of 45 members experienced a fabulous week in Montana at Big Sky ski resort   CVSC at Big Sky, MT   Members were comfortable in upscale hotel-style accommodations at the Huntley Lodge in the Base village with easy lift access.  The hotel offered a variety of cozy meetup areas and prepared delicious breakfast buffets daily.

Ski conditions were great throughout the week!  The trip up Lone Peak tram could be taken as a scenic excursion, or with skis, for those who wanted to experience a 3,666 ft vertical drop from peak to base!

A variety of other activities included dog sledding, a tour of Yellowstone, visiting the beautifully lit “Enchanted Forest”, and a snow cat ride to an evening dinner in a remote yurt on the mountain. At the base village, members enjoyed a popular outdoor deck and an umbrella bar for fun après ski get togethers.

For the third trip, Chagrin Valley ski club took the Amtrak train for a six day five night ski trip to Stratton, VT CVSC at Stratton, VT.  Everyone enjoyed being able to walk around throughout the day and socialize in the café car during breakfast and lunch.  And tons of fun runs on the mountain.  The CVSC crew filled up half of Mulligan’s Irish Pub on St Patty’s Day!

Suburban Ski Club

Suburban members were treated to three major ski trips in 2025 – one east, one west, and one to across the border to Canada.

The last week of January Suburban spent an awesome week at Schweitzer in Idaho. Skiing was fantastic for all. We had bluebird skies for skiing with an evening in town line dancing, a game night and multiple lunch & dinners spent together sharing stories of the day well spent out on the slopes.

In February the Suburban Ski Club embarked on a fabulous four-day wine and ski trip through the fabled Finger Lakes of New York. Day One included stops at two vineyards for wine tastings and light hors devours. Dr. Frank’s Winery in Hammondsport included a tour of their historic Chateau Frank and samplings of sparkling wines. A later stop at Lakewood Vineyards in Watkins Glen rounded out the day with a tour and samplings of red wines. Both vineyards were spectacular and a must-see for any trip through the NY wine country. We then spent two days skiing at Greek Peak in Courtland, NY. The mountain offered plenty of variation and snow conditions were perfect. This was our club’s first visit to Greek Peak in many many years  and the resort was well worth the trip. On the way back to Cleveland we stopped at Bristol Mountain for a day enjoying the highest vertical in the East outside of the Laurentian Mountains, not to mention “THE BEST” mid-mountain waffle house.

In March our club headed to the “Great White North” for a week skiing at Mt. Tremblant in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec. What a fantastic resort! The week started out with a fresh dumping of 4-6 inches of snow. Lodging was slope-side with a mere 100 foot walk to the gondola. Ski conditions were a mix from mid-season snow with packed-powder groomers to spring conditions with plenty of soft moguls and glades to enjoy.

But the mountain skiing was only half the story. Tremblant Village was spectacular. The cobbled streets, amazing restaurants, cozy bars and plenty of shopping opportunities provided a very European charm. Crepes, maple gelato and of course the famous Canadian beaver tails were worth the price of admission alone. This trip was organized by Sports America which was their first to any destination in the East. They did a fantastic job with thumbs up from everybody!

Lewis Ski Club

During the winter of 2025 Lewis Ski Club traveled to Copper Mountain, Colorado enjoying bluebird days while lodging comfortably at the nearby Cambria Hotel. The group thoroughly enjoyed the daily mountain tours with most taking advantage of the complimentary service.  Copper had something for everyone.

Then in early March, a group boarded the Amtrak in Cleveland for a trip to Ski the East at Mount Snow, Vermont.  We had a cold bluebird day, a cloudy day, a rainy day, a warm day and ended with a windy day.  It almost felt like Ohio! But Mount Snow doesn’t disappoint; the ski in and out at the Grand Summit is so convenient.  Wherever we go, we’re wearing our red leg bands so we can recognize each other on the slopes!

Stark County Ski Club

Stark County Ski Club ran (2) week-long trips for the 2025 season, one east and one west. Our eastern trip was a self-drive to Lake Placid, NY in early February where members skied Whiteface and explored the Olympic Village.

Our western trip went to Mammoth, CA in late February and enjoyed blue bird days skiing, took a mountain tour and snowmobile ride.

The Club also filled spots in the season with the annual two-night trip to Ellicottville where we skied Kissing Bridge and Holiday Valley and a two-night trip to Camelback Resort in PA where the club enjoyed spring skiing and the waterpark with adult swim up bar.  Many of our members purchased passes to Snowtrails and met up there while others ski Boston Mills/Brandywine on the Epic Pass.

Warren Ski Club

The Warren Ski Club had an exciting winter season in 2025, featuring four thrilling ski trips to renowned destinations. Members kicked off the season in December at Copper Mountain, Colorado, where they enjoyed sunny days and fresh powder.

In February, the club ventured to Zermatt, Switzerland, a picturesque alpine town under the shadow of the iconic Matterhorn, with Cleveland Metro Ski Council.  Skiers explored the extensive trails and even skied into Italy one day.  Some members extended their trip with a visit to Majorca, Spain, adding a Mediterranean flair to their winter adventure. Later that month, over 30 members drove to Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, New York for several days of skiing, good food and fun.

March brought the final trip of the season to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. With over 153 inches of fresh snow in February and March, Jackson Hole provided fun skiing conditions across its diverse terrain.

Notably, Joe and Denise Malovich stood out as dedicated adventurers by attending all four trips. Their commitment exemplified the camaraderie and passion for skiing that defines the Warren Ski Club.

High Rise Ski Club

High Rise hosted 2 ski trips:  Jackson Hole was an epic trip where we enjoyed at least a foot of powder each of the first three days giving our group of 52 skiers fantastic conditions and numerous moose sightings throughout the week. In addition to skiing, some of our group also participated in snowmobile and wildlife bus tours to Yellowstone and Old Faithfull, cross country skiing, walking, shopping in Jackson and watching a local Cleveland hockey team play the semi-pro team in Jackson. The group was well fed with a welcome party, mid-week barbecue buffet, a farewell pizza party and daily breakfast, all held in the lobby of the 49er Inn.

A month later 24 of us journeyed to Steamboat Springs, although we didn’t have as much snow, we still totaled over a couple of feet. There was a welcome party, pub crawl, midweek and farewell dinners. Conveniently flew into Hayden 40 minutes away. Conditions and sunshine were fantastic staying at Holiday Inn with a private shuttle. The town is very accessible with many options. A trip to the local Strawberry Park Hot Spring pools completed the total Steamboat experience.

Cuyahoga Valley Ski & Social Club

This ski season brought lots of wonderful runs, both locally, in New York, and then in Idaho and Colorado.

We established “Mondays at Boston Mills’ which gave many of us a chance to spend some beautiful days where it began for us!  January brought our usual warm-up trip to Ellicottville.  This year we visited Kissing Bridge and Holiday Valley.  The weather was great and there was so much powder!

February found us at Sun Valley!  There wasn’t a great amount of snow, but a wonderful time was had by all.  There were many beautiful blue sky days, so there was no disappointment! In March, we travelled to the Snowmass/Aspen area just in time to celebrate Mardi Gras!  We had access to Snowmass, Buttermilk, Aspen and Aspen Highlands.  We all agreed that we need return here soon!  Both trips went off without a hitch from Cleveland to our destinations.
